Project Quarantine: Archive Archeology

2020 was supposed to be the year when everything started coming together, and began to make sense. And for the first couple of months, it seemed like that’s where things were headed… Until the pandemic came, and in a flash, the whole world changed overnight!

With very little notice or preparation we were all thrown into the deep end and expected to swim into this new kind of lifestyle. Despite the fact that many of our jobs and clients have disappeared, cancelled or rescheduled, we all have to adapt to the changing work climate and the (hopefully temporary) restrictions imposed by social distancing.

For the many of us who are artists, this situation poses quite a few new challenges. But we will persevere because we must. Some jobs will return to normal, others will necessarily change as the demands and needs change. So what do we do in the meantime…

Since I can’t be out there shooting much of anything new at the moment, I decided this is the perfect time for digging into the archives, and dusting off the cobwebs so I can find some rough stones that just need a little extra polishing. Editing old pics can be invigorating, especially when you realize how far you’ve come from when you started. 

So I’m gonna take this precious time to review some of the many wonderful experiences that I never had enough time or energy to devote to because something more pressing always came up. Thus, this new project was born, and if I can’t be outside, I can still create meaningful Art from the thousands of lost images filling up those old hard drives…

Stay tuned, because in the coming days and weeks, I’m gonna share some older imagery, and the stories they represent, like these from back in 2013 when we took a helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon. During these challenging times, it’s especially important to focus on the things in life that bring us joy, and share that happiness with as many people as possible.
